Child Nutrition Program Specialist, Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Job Summary: The Child Nutrition Program Specialist will perform in-home evaluations of legally exempt and licensed/registered childcare providers to guarantee that they satisfy state regulations for health and safety. The specialist will also be responsible for overseeing and teaching participants in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), completing enrollment, supplying technical advice, and stimulating active involvement of childcare providers. Infant Toddler Specialist

 

Job Summary: Provide high quality consultation, support and education to family/group family and center child care providers with a focus on care of infants and toddlers. Implement grant-generated educational programs when available. Contribute to Provider Newsletters. Create and deliver workshops as needed for off-site training and for on-site training catalog. Participate in activities to promote knowledge about quality infant and toddler care programs to the community.

 

Skill Requirements: Knowledge and understanding of infant/toddler care, child care programs and OCFS regulations. Good communication skills both in person and on the phone. Willing to work as a team with other members of the department, as well as with staff from other departments in the agency. Ability to work with computerized systems to maintain database and perform internet searches. Able to multi-task, balancing work load and independent projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide telephone and e-mail technical assistance to licensed and registered programs, and relative or non-regulated caregivers, parents and  community members on child development,  regulatory issues and specialized care for infants and toddlers.
  • Implement grant-generated educational programs  when available
  • Contribute to a Provider Newsletter
  • Develop and implement workshops for family/ group family/center staff for training catalog and off-site trainings.
  • Generate reports as needed for the department
  • Provide assistance to other department staff
  • Participate in a team-oriented work environment while valuing individual team members’ contributions, appreciation for diversity and confidentiality standards of the agency.
  • Participate in department and agency staff meetings and trainings; participate in planning and implementation of department/agency strategic plan and customer service standards.
  • Attend workshops, in-house trainings, phone conferences, webinars and other meetings
  • Participate in functions of the NYS Early Care and Learning Council Infant Toddler Network
  • Work collaboratively with the Child Care Council of Nassau to develop the Theory of Change Model for the Long Island Region.
  • Maintain professional resources that include books, videos, pamphlets, brochures, etc. that promote best practices for infant toddler care.
  • Perform other work related duties as requested

 Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree preferred, in early childhood or related field; at least 3 years experience in a child care setting providing direct service to infants and toddlers; some experience providing Training and/or Technical Assistance in the area of child development or early childhood education.
  •  Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse community
  • Knowledge and willingness to learn about specialized care for infants and toddlers, childcare, early education options, issues, regulations, and child development
  • Exhibits proactive problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Internet Explorer, and various office machines (copier, Fax, printers).
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies in delivery of services.

 Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • This position requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time, keyboarding, and phone use.
  • Travel to various locations throughout Suffolk County will be required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work is required; presence required at some off-site functions and trainings.
  • Ability to lift presentation equipment in and out of care is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel to other parts of NYS may be required (at agency expense)

Human Resources Coordinator

 Job Summary: provides assistance in important functions in the department such as recruitment, maintenance of employee records, payroll, overseeing the hiring and termination of employees, as well as the distribution of appropriate compensation and benefits while keeping apprised of state and federal regulations and guidelines for employees working in the non-profit sector.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for record keeping of employees as well as responsible for coordinating with the Directors regarding the proper implementation of policies and procedures implemented by the Council.

  • Leading day-to-day payroll administration, including bi-weekly payroll processing, collecting timecard data, and acting as initial degree of contact for inquiries and issues related to payroll, ensuring the accurate information reflects in payroll database, verifying, and providing inputs regarding data and pay changes. 
  • Establishing, organizing and supervising the maintenance of department records, ensuring complete accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Conducting employee orientation programs such as introducing personnel employment benefits, payroll, assisting in filling of enrollment forms.
  • Accurately process and file required paperwork for newly hired employees.
  • Inform applicants and employees regarding various programs and procedure requirements such as hours of work, benefits, general work expectations, and time off.
  • Maintaining confidentially concerning personnel actions, legal actions, termination and non-renewal documents, and organizational plans.
  • Leading information sessions for new and current employees to describe employee benefits and insurance offered to employee

Skill Requirements:

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices related to payroll activities.
  • Ability to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Solid problem-solving and business acumen skills.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Good professional appearance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer, as well as office machines (i.e. fax, copier, printers).

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2-4 years of processing payroll and all related payroll tasks.
  • 2-4 years of professional human resources experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Candidate must have a strong committed interest in the non-profit work environment.
