Job Description

Children of America is currently seeking qualified teachers and floaters who share our beliefs in early childhood education. We prefer a minimum of one-year experience teaching in an early childhood classroom. Teachers must have good classroom management skills and be comfortable following written lesson plans while maintaining good classroom management. Prospective teachers must be outgoing, friendly, high energy and have a true love of children. Teachers will be implementing activities in a fun, effective manner, as well as possess excellent communication skills. The COA Lead Teacher will incorporate lessons through song, and provide learning through play. As part of a team you will bring leadership, patience and plenty of hugs.

Our Teachers Work Together to:Develop lesson plans.

  • Provide patience with a listening ear

  • Communicating appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff

  • Excellent writing skills to deliver child's progress to parents and other teachers.

  • Design an appropriate room arrangement to support the goals and developmental level of the children in the classroom.

    Qualifications:

  • Must meet New York state requirements.

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field OR Child Development Associate credential or other Office- recognized credential specific to the preschool development.

  • One-year experience related to caring for children OR 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to a: Child Development Associate credential; Or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Commitment to Professional Development.

  • Have or willing to obtain SIDS/Shaken Baby, CPR, and First Aid certification.

Required Skills: 

At least two years leadership experience; Ability to develop and retain a staff 

Ensure that curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices are in place at the center

Ensure that licensing standards are met ad assist in the accreditation process for the center 

Assist the teachers with weekly curriculum development and execution of the curriculum and the program 

Monitor and manage the financial progress of the center 

Ensure a safe learning environment for the children in your care 

A strong love for children & a desire to make a difference in the lives of children 

Knowledge of OCFS regulations

Education:  

Bachelor's (preferred) including 12 Early Childhood credits, one year teaching experience in a day care center and one year supervising staff
