 Part Time Classroom Support Staff – (hourly)

Join our NAEYC accredited program assisting early childhood teachers in the classroom.  We are looking for caring, creative individuals to work with us in our multi-age classrooms with Infants and Toddlers (2 months - 3 years) or Preschoolers (3-5 years.) 

·         Assist teachers in creating a safe, engaging classroom environment.

·         Interact with the children indoors and out to promote positive social skills, constructive play and playful learning.

·         Assist teachers with routine activities (meals, naps, toileting, and cleanup)

We will train eligible candidates. Must be 18 years of age. Experience with children under 5 preferred.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Associate's Degree, credit equivalent (60 credits), or completion of an early childhood accredited course. In lieu of the educational requirements, two years of full-time experience in the field of Childcare will be considered. One year of early childhood experience working with children 5 years and under.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. Additional years of experience working with children 5 years and under.  Experience in a full day, early childhood/child care setting.

Brief Description of Duties:  
This is an early childhood team teaching position based in an infant/toddler multi-age grouping at Stony Brook Child Care Services, Inc.  The goal is to provide high quality care and education to children ranging in age 2 months to 3 years.  Additionally, the Center is a practicum site for undergraduate interns who will be supervised and mentored by this staff person.

Teaching:  Provide daily care and education to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children aged 2 months to 3 years in accordance with Stony Brook Child Care Services, Inc. philosophy.

  • Administration:  Participate in administrative duties that involve scheduling, hiring, adapting curriculum, monitoring the condition of the facility, and availability of supplies.
  • Student Intern Program:  To include supervising and serving as a role model for undergraduate interns as well as participating in seminars and the grading process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Little Rascals Learning Center, Infant Teacher

The Infant Teacher is responsible for the care, supervision and management of a class of Infants (6 Weeks to 18 Months) in accordance with the goals and curriculum plan of Little Rascals Learning Center. The principle duties of the Infant Teacher include: conduct focused observations of children, develop action plans, carry out activities on a daily basis and evaluate the effectiveness of child development activities, ensure the safety and well-being of the children, maintain regular communication with parents and contribute to the effective operation of the overall early care and education center. 
Job Responsibilities 

Plan and conduct an effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child. This should be done based on the goals and general curriculum plan of the center.
•Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities.
•Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision and management of designated space.
•Operate the classroom in compliance with all child care licensing standards and Little Rascal Policy Handbooks.
•Create an open, friendly, and cooperative atmosphere in which children and families feel comfortable and secure.
•Provide experiences that promote individual expression through conversation, play and creativity.
•Provide a variety of language stimulation activities.
•Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their child's experiences at the center through daily contacts.
  Qualifications:
Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field and one year experience.

CDA (Infant/Toddler) and two years experience 
or

9 college credits in Early Childhood Development with a plan of study leading to Infant/Toddler CDA or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Development.

MONDAY -> FRIDAY
FULL-TIME hours are between 8:00am & 6:30pm;
PART-TIME hours are 2:30pm to 6:00pm.

The HEAD OF GROUP TEACHER (formerly known as Lead Teacher) will be responsible for the:
• Daily supervision of the children & classroom;
• Accommodating individual schedules and needs;
• Facilitating age-appropriate activities.

Qualified HEAD OF GROUP TEACHER applicants must have:
• Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; and,
• At least one (1) year experience related to caring for infants and toddlers.
- OR -
• Infants and Toddler Child Care and Education credential; or, Infants Toddler Child Development Associate credential; or, other Office-recognized credential specific to the infant/toddler developmental period; and,
• Two (2) years experience related to caring for infants and toddlers.
- OR -
• Child Development Associate credential; and,
• Two (2) years experience caring for children, one on which much be related to caring for infants or toddlers.
- OR -
• Nine (9) college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field with a plan of study leading to:
o Infants and Toddler Child Care and Education credential; or,
o Infant Toddler Development Associate credential; or,
o Other Office-recognized credential specific to the infant/toddler developmental period; or,
o Associate's Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field; AND,
• Two (2) years experience related to caring for children, one of which must be related to working with infants and toddlers.
• Familiarity with Bank Street/Montessori/Reggio Emilia methodology, a plus.

The ASSISTANT TEACHER will assist the Group Teacher in the day-to-day care of children, facilitation of activities, and general classroom maintenance.

Qualified ASSISTANT TEACHER applicants must have:
• High school diploma or equivalent; OR,
• One (1) year experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
• Familiarity with Bank Street/Montessori/Reggio Emilia methodology, a plus.
