The Child Care Council of Suffolk, Inc., is hosting Champions of Children, a luncheon benefit, Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. Two prominent community leaders will be honored: Janet Walerstein, Executive Director of Child Care Council of Suffolk and Nicholas LaMorte, President of CSEA, Long Island Region.

The Capitol Steps will perform at this year's Champions of Children event. Over twenty-five years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom (“Don't quit your day job!“), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate experience.

Funds raised will help the Council to continue offering vital services: linking parents with child care options to meet their needs; offering child care providers educational and technical assistance; and helping employers serve their workforce by organizing on-site child care programs, and more.
